구미 생가에 세워지는 박정희 전 대통령의 동상은 애초 계획보다 축소되고 형태도 바뀌는 것으로 결론이 내려졌다.

박정희대통령동상건립추진위원회는 동상 제작을 맡은 홍익대 김영원 미술대학장과 협의 끝에 동상 높이를 5~6ｍ로 줄이기로 했다고 19일 밝혔다.

동상건립추진위는 김 학장은 애초 좌대를 포함해 동상 높이를 10.7ｍ로 제작하려 했으나 지나치게 커서 위화감을 줄 수 있다는 지적이 있어 축소하기로 했다고 전했다.

또 북한 평양 만수대의 김일성 동상과 유사하다는 논란이 제기됐던 박 대통령 동상의 자세도 서서 두루마리를 쥔 모습으로 변경ㆍ제작하기로 했다.

두루마리는 박 전 대통령의 치적으로 꼽히는 경제개발 5개년계획을 뜻한다.

김일성 동상과 유사한 점 가운데 하나였던 옷차림도 코트를 대신해 양복으로 변경된다.

이 같은 동상 형태나 크기 변경은 소박하고 서민적인 모습이 담기길 원하는 유족 측 의견도 반영됐다고 동상건립추진위는 전했다.

지난 3월 선정된 김 학장의 애초 작품은 무릎까지 내려오는 코트를 입고 오른손을 어깨보다 약간 높게 들고 응시하는 자세를 취해 김일성 동상과 비슷하다는 논란이 일었다.

동상건립추진위 관계자는 "10월20일까지 동상을 제작해서 11월14일 구미에서 열리는 박 대통령 탄생 기념행사 때 일반에 공개할 방침"이라고 말했다.
