구미 경제지표 호전..실물 경기 살아나나 |

"경기가 바닥을 치고 조금 나아지는 것이 느껴집니다. 지난해 이맘 때와 비교했을 때 조금씩 손님이 늘고 있거든요."
경북 구미시 형곡동에서 식당을 하는 J(50)씨는 4월 18일 나 뿐만 아니라 주변 식당 업주도 지역 실물경기가 살아나는 걸 체감한다고 말했다.
또 4년제 대학 전자공학과를 졸업하고 지난 3월 구미의 한 전자업체에 취업한 C(27)씨는 "졸업한 대학과 집이 있는 대구에서 직장을 구하려 했지만 마땅한 곳이 없어 구미로 왔다"고 밝혔다.
최근 기업 입주가 늘면서 C씨처럼 직장을 찾아 구미로 오는 사람이 증가하고 있다. 이처럼 고용ㆍ인구가 늘어나면서 실물 경제도 살아나고 있다는 분석이 나오고 있다.
구미시에 따르면 지난해 7월 민선 5기가 시작된 이후 지금까지 LG디스플레이와 일본 아사히글라스 등 국내외 기업 9곳에서 2조9천466억원의 투자를 유치했다.
이 기업들의 투자는 직접 고용뿐만 아니라 하청 업체 등의 간접 고용으로 이어지는 효과를 내고 있다는 것.
실례로 한국산업단지공단 대경권본부가 집계한 구미국가산업단지 근로자 수는 지난해 4월 6만8천3명을 시작으로 매달 꾸준히 늘어 올해 1월에는 7천여명이 증가한 7만5천489명에 이르렀다.
물론 8만756명으로 정점을 찍었던 2005년 10월보다는 적지만 빠른 속도로 근로자 수가 늘고 있다.
게다가 고용노동부 구미고용센터 조사 결과 구미지역 고용보험 피보험자수는 2008년 말 12만6천482명에서 2009년 말 13만516명, 2010년 말에는 14만2천164명으로 증가했다.
또 다른 경제지표 중 하나인 실업급여 지급인원도 2008년 4만3천150명에서 2009년 5만55명으로 늘었으나 2010년에는 3만4천459명으로 크게 줄었다.
고용보험은 1인 이상 사업체면 가입해야 하기 때문에 피보험자수가 늘었다는 사실은 그만큼 고용이 증가했다는 것을 가리키고, 실업급여 지급인원이 줄었다는 것은 실업자가 그 만큼 감소해 고용사정이 나아졌다는 것을 의미한다.
이에 대해 김호현 구미고용센터소장은 "고용보험 피보험자수나 실업급여 지급인원 등의 경제지표를 보면 구미지역은 경기가 살아나고 있다고 할 수 있다"고 말했다.
이를 반영하듯 구미 인구 역시 계속 증가하고 있다. 2009년 말 39만6천419명에서 지난해 말 40만4천920명으로 늘었고 올해 3월 말 현재는 40만7천272명을 기록하고 있다.
이런 경제지표뿐만 아니라 구미국가산업단지 5단지나 확장단지, 구미경제자유구역 개발 등에 따른 보상금이 풀리면서 실물경기도 좋아지고 있다. 경기가 좋던 1990년대 중ㆍ후반 같지는 않지만 위축되기만 하던 상황은 벗어났다고 보는 사람이 많다.
구미시의 한 간부 공무원은 "구미지역 경기가 아주 좋다고는 말하기 어렵지만 각종 기업의 입주가 늘면서 전체적으로 나아지고 있는 것은 분명하다"고 말했다.
