금오산 멧돼지에 경북환경연수원 '비상' |
|
경상북도환경연수원에 멧돼지가 자주 출현해 비상이 걸렸다.
4월 13일 경북도환경연수원 등에 따르면 최근 구미시 남통동 금오산 입구의 환경연수원에 멧돼지가 나타나 귀한 식물들을 먹거나 짓밟아 훼손시키고 있다.
환경연수원은 도민의 환경교육을 위해 토속식물원과 수생식물원, 약용식물원 등에서 수백 종의 식물을 키우고 있다.
그런데 금오산에 서식하는 멧돼지가 내려와 애써 심은 솔나리 모종 수백포기를 먹어치웠다.
사라진 솔나리의 재배지에는 발자국과 파 뒤집힌 흙의 흔적이 남아 멧돼지가 다녀갔음을 확인시켜줬다.
또 다른 귀한 식물도 멧돼지의 먹잇감이 돼 환경연수원 곳곳이 멧돼지 발자국으로 도배됐다.
지난해 고라니가 자주 나타나 화초를 먹어 치우는 바람에 애써 가꾼 식물이 피해를 본 적이 있는 데다 올해 들어 멧돼지마저 활개치자 연수원은 다급해졌다.
누구나 와서 꽃과 풀, 나무 등을 볼 수 있도록 공개하지만 동물이 휘젓고 다니다 보니 보여줄 수 있는 식물이 줄고 있기 때문이다.
이 때문에 연수원은 올해 초 경계를 따라 목책을 설치했지만 고라니 침입을 막는 데는 성공했어도 목책 틈으로 들어오는 멧돼지까지는 막지 못하고 있다.
멧돼지가 야행성이다 보니 사람이 야간에 감시하기도 어려운 형편이다.
호랑이 똥을 뿌려놓거나 멧돼지가 싫어하는 더덕류를 경계지에 심었지만 일시적인 효과만 날뿐 한계가 있다는게 연수원 측의 설명이다.
연수원은 멧돼지를 포획하는 방안을 검토했지만 금오산이 도립공원으로 규제가 많아 그마저도 어려워 대책 마련에 골머리를 앓고 있다.
연수원 측은 "멧돼지 퇴치에 효과적인 여러 방안을 검토하고 있는데 아직 마땅한 방안을 찾지 못해 고민하고 있다"고 말했다.
