경주개 '동경이' 아시아애견연맹 인증 |

㈔한국경주개동경이보존협회는 경주개 '동경이'가 최근 열린 제5회 대구 애완동물 엑스포에서 아시아애견연맹으로부터 새로운 견종 인증을 받았다고 4월 25일 밝혔다.
고려시대 동경이라는 지명으로 불렸던 경주지역에서 많이 사육돼 이름 붙여진 동경이는 꼬리가 없거나 5㎝미만으로 매우 짧은 것이 특징이다.
서라벌대학 최석규 교수 연구팀과 경주시, 동경이보존협회는 동경이의 천연기념물 지정을 위해 2005년부터 혈통고정화 사업을 진행하고 있다.
동경이는 작년에는 한국애견협회로부터 한국 토종개 4호로 지정받았으며 사람에게 매우 친화적이어서 장애인을 대상으로 하는 동물매개치료에도 이용되고 있다.
최 교수는 "동경이가 아시아 애견연맹에 새로운 견종으로 등록돼 회원국에 널리 홍보할 수 있게 됐을 뿐 아니라 세계의 견종으로 등록하는 데도 도움이 될 것"이라며 "동경이의 천연기념물 지정을 위한 행정 절차를 추진하고 있어 조만간 좋은 결론이 날 것으로 기대하고 있다"고 말했다.
