경북도와 경주시, 대한육상경기연맹, 동아일보사가공동으로 주최하는 '동아일보 2010 경주국제마라톤대회'는 1만여명이 참가할 예정이다.
올해 19번째 맞이하는 이번대회는 해외선수 20여 명과 국내 남·여 선수 80여 명 등의 엘리트 부문과 풀코스, 하프코스, 10㎞, 5㎞ 건강 달리기의 마스터스 부문으로 열린다.
대회참가 신청은 24일 까지 동아일보 경주 국제마라톤대회 홈 페이지(http://marathon.donga.com)에서 가능하다.
참가 선수들에게는 세계문화엑스포공원, 신라밀레니엄파크와 보문단지내 각급 호텔 및 콘도, 레져시설의 할인과 참가자 기념품 등 다양한 혜택도 주어진다.
동아일보 경주국제 마라톤대회는 1999년 대회에서 한국 스포츠사상 단일종목으로 최초 1만명을 돌파하는 등 한국 마라톤의 역사로 기록되고 있다.
올해는 IAAF(국제육상경기연맹)가 인증하는 실버(Silver)라벨 인증을 받아 세계 30대 마라톤 중 하나로 격상됐다.
IAAF가 2008년부터 부여하기 시작한 인증제도는 남녀 선수의 기록과, 언론보도, 중계 규모, 도핑검사 수준, 협찬사 후원규모 등 심사 기준을 14개로 나눠 골드(Gold)와 실버(Silver), 브론즈(Bronze) 등 매년 세 등급으로 나눠 관리한다.
전 세계적으로 수백 개에 달하는 국제마라톤대회 중 골드(Gold) 라벨 인증을 받은 대회는 14개, 실버(Silver)는 16개, 브론즈(Bronze)는 5개로 총35개 대회이다.
우리나라의 경우 2010 서울국제마라톤대회가 유일하게 골드 인증을 받았으며, 동아일보 2010 경주국제마라톤대회와 조선일보춘천마라톤대회 두 대회가 실버 인증을 중앙일보서울마라톤이 브론즈 인증을 받았다.
