건전 사회 발전을 위한 TV의 역할 |
|
말은 마음의 거울이고 TV는 사회의 거울이다
신문에서 ‘TV의 가정파괴’에 관한 기사를 읽었다. 건전사회 발전을 갈망하는 데 뜻을 같이 하는 사람들과 함께 걱정을 하고 싶다.
오늘날 TV는 우리 사회의 문화 발전에 결정적인 영향력을 행사하고 있다. 그런데 그런 막강한 힘을 가진 TV가 올바른 역할을 수행하고 있는가에 대하여 깊은 반성을 해 보아야 할 시점이다. TV 드라마나 연예프로는 지나친 시청률 경쟁 때문에 흥미 위주로 흐름으로써 건전성을 잃어간다는 비판을 면치 못하고 있다. 무엇보다도 시청률에 지나치게 매달림으로써 폭력, 불륜, 패륜적 내용을 마구 드라마에 담아 방영하고 있다.
TV연속극에서 갈수록 도덕성이 타락돼 가는 것은 오로지 시청률 경쟁 때문이라 한다. 시청률 향상을 위해서는 작가의 뜻이 꺾이는 경우도 많다고 한다. ‘폭력’이나 ‘불륜’ '파괴 가정‘을 소재로 해야만 시청률이 높아지기 때문이란다. 대중매체인 TV가 대중의 인기를 전혀 무시하기는 어려우리라. 그러나 시청률은 건전성과 진실성을 바탕으로 한 것이라야지, 대중이 일시적 호기심으로 좋아한다는 것만을 가지고 예술적 가치를 재는 잣대로 삼아서야 되겠는가?
문학은 ‘있음직한 사실’을 그려내야 하는 것이지, ‘있을 수 없는 사실’,‘있어서는 안 될 사실’을 그려내는 것은 정도를 일탈한 것이다. 인간성 발달을 해치는 결과를 초래하는 것이니 용납될 수 없는 일이다.
드라마의 등장인물이나, 연예 프로 출연자가 품위를 잃은 속어, 비어, 은어 등을 남발하는 것 또한 문제이다. 그들의 대화에서 폭력적이거나 욕설, 비속어 등을 재미삼아 입에 달고 씀으로써 아직도 판단력이 정립되지 못한 미성년들에게 무분별하게 받아들여지고 그것이 정상적인 용어인 양 자기들 사회에서 유행되고 있으니 우리의 장래가 걱정되지 않을 수 없다.
대중의 심리는 단순하다 할 것이다. 불륜 패륜적 행위를 일시적 흥미삼아 시청하고, 여기에 익숙해진 시청자들은 별다른 죄의식 없이 더 강한 자극성 있는 내용을 원하게 될 것이다. 품위 없는 비속한 언어가 청소년들에게 생활 언어로 굳어져 버릴 경우, 그들의 인격 또한 저속해져 결국 품격 없는 사회가 되고 말 것이 아닌가? 그렇게 된다면 이 사회는 점차 도덕성을 상실한 비인간사회로 타락하고 말 것이 불 보듯 빤하다.
TV가 언어 타락을 부추기거나 사회질서를 문란케 하고, 도덕사회를 무너뜨리게 하는 일은 어느 누구도 원하지 않을 것이다. 그런데도 이것이 아무런 여과 장치 없이 마구 방출하는 TV 드라마나, 품격 잃은 비속어와 막말들을 함부로 쏟아내는 연예인들의 활동과 무관하지 않으니 여기엔 누군가의 브레이크가 걸려야 한다.
비속하고 패륜적인 언어 행동은 패륜적 국민정서를 낳고, 패륜적 국민정서는 극한 행동으로 이어지기 마련이다. 그러므로 우리 TV는 건전사회 발전을 위한 TV의 역할을 다하기 위해 특히 연속 드라마에서 앞으로 심기일전하여 우리 사회를 정화시키고 올바른 방향으로 발전시켜나가도록 하는 데 각별한 힘을 기울여 나가야 하겠다.
